Our Story
Director & Nominated Architect, Chris Mavromoustakos, has a rather unique journey that has led to the foundation of MAVROarchitects;
Upon completing his Civil/Structural Engineering degree with Honors at UNSW, he sought work experience at a local & reputable architecture firm which ignited his passion for design, specifically the intricacies of residential architecture.
Re-enrolling at UNSW allowed him to complete his Bachelors of Architectural Studies before finishing his studies with a Masters of Architecture specialising in Housing. He simultaneously worked at an architecture firm that provided first hand experience in designing a vast variety of projects ranging from government buildings to train stations, boarding houses, commercial buildings, heritage items and residential projects. An understanding of the built form was still lacking so after working solely in design for 5 years, Chris joined a local construction company that focused on designing & building bespoke homes in the Sutherland Shire. It is here he extensively developed his knowledge into the construction of a bespoke house that is feasible and within a clients' budget.
Combining the theoretical ideas from his Architecture degrees with the early principles of engineering and applying them to the built form in construction is a blend that Chris' experience allows him to seamlessly apply within his designs. The result is something more intricate and complete, and has led to an opportunity for Chris to showcase the resulting houses through his own Architecture firm that came to fruition in 2024.
Our Style
Our style stems from Chris' Mediterranean heritage in which classic whites, natural light and curves/arches enhance the experience within a house. Upon Chris' travels throughout the Mediterranean and Europe, he gained a better understanding of the reasoning behind many styles and designs. He particularly admired the way the brickwork combined with large arched windows in Spain in which its materiality created a modern expression of the classic Spanish architecture.
This style is also expressed throughout the designs of MAVROarchitects and while a revitalised modern Spanish style is what began the MAVROarchitects brand, many other bespoke designs to suit the clients' needs have also taken form thus far showcasing the versatility in design at MAVROarchitects.
